Mary Robinson shared a dream with Nyaradzayi Gumbonzvanda, General Secretary of the World YWCA, to bring a group of women leaders to Zimbabwe to show solidarity with women there working to foster democracy and human rights. After connecting with African women who shared that same dream, they led a mission to Zimbabwe in April 2010. This video reflects on what turned out to be a historic visit.

Mary Robinson was invited by the inclusive government of Zimbabwe to lead a delegation of eminent African women leaders to participate in the ???High Level Dialogue on Promoting Women???s Empowerment in the Political and Economic Arena???, which took place in Zimbabwe on 26 April 2010. WLIF, the World YWCA, the United Nations, and the Women???s Coalition of Zimbabwe worked together to develop the solidarity mission that ensued from 26-30 April.

Despite what is at stake, few national governments or multi-lateral institutions have fully embraced the links between climate change and the MDGs. By contrast, many civil society groups and community-based organizations (CBOs) across the world have brought attention to the threats climate change poses to realization of the MDGs, and advocated for concerted action. Still, policy priorities and funding for development and climate change adaptation and mitigation have not yet been allied in fundamental ways; in too many contexts, climate change is still a footnote to MDG implementation.

Researchers have reported the first significant drop in maternal mortality in decades. However, Mary Robinson, on NPR's 'Talk of the Nation', warns it's far too soon to celebrate. Each year, hundreds of thousands of women around the world die during pregnancy and childbirth, the great majority in developing countries, where complications from pregnancy are all too often endemic.
